We offer many different ways for percussionists to perform at Austin High, and Mr. Fuhrman leads our efforts.
Our battery and front ensemble groups are part of our marching band, and are open to both percussionists and non-percussionists by audition. Some students that play non-marching instruments, such as piano, oboe, or bassoon, fill spots in our battery or front ensemble groups during marching band season. Percussion students also play drum set in our two jazz bands.
Battery
Our battery section, or “Drumline”, provides the backbeat for our marching band. We march snare drums, tenor drums, and bass drums.
Front Ensemble
Our front ensemble provides a place for non-marching percussion in front of the band. The students in this section play all kinds of instruments, from mallet percussion to drum set, and electronic instruments.
Percussion Ensemble
After marching season, our percussionists continue to play as a group for concert season, contribute greatly to our full orchestra groups, and also perform as a separate ensemble for percussion competitions.
