Austin High School Band Leadership Auditions 2026-2027

Step 1: Leadership packet

Starting Monday 2/23/26, Leadership packets will be available for all interested candidates.

Please see Ms. Kilbane to obtain a paper copy. Be sure to read all materials thoroughly.

Drum Majors, WW/Brass/Perc/Guard Captains, & Section Leaders

All prospective leaders need to pick up a packet (DMs, WWs, Brass, Percussion, & Color Guard)

*Prospective Leaders will attend two workshops

Crew Captains (Library, Sound, Trailer/Props/Loading, Uniform, Water, & Workout)

Please pick up a packet and attend the two Leadership Clinics. You will do a short interview but not teach on 4/9.

Step 2: Agreement Form

Complete the Lesson Packet Agreement Form (Page 8) by hand.

Step 3: Complete Application

Complete a meaningful and honest application on (Page 9-13) by hand.

Step 4: Teacher Recommendations

Complete TWO Teacher Recommendations (Page 14-15) Have teachers complete and return to you.

Step 5: Playing Video

Review Audition Requirements (Page 16-18) —> Submit your Playing video before Clinic #2.

Step 6: Agreement Form

Your completed Leadership Packet (Steps 2-5) must be submitted to Ms. West or Ms. Kilbane at the first Leadership Clinic on Monday, March 27th.

Please note: Packet collection will only occur on 3/27, beginning at 5:00 PM at the clinic.

This is a hard-copy-only submission. You will receive one Leadership Packet, and no extra copies or online PDFs will be available. Successfully keeping track of and turning in your original hard copy is the first step in your leadership journey.

*Please attend all camp/clinic dates to be considered for a leadership position.

Spring 2026 Dates:

March 27th - Leadership Clinic #1 (Handwritten Leadership Packet Due) - 5:00-7:15pm

April 3rd - Leadership Clinic #2 (Quick Interview and Submit Guinea Pig Names) - 5:00-7:15pm

April 9th - General Leadership Auditions Round #1 (Guinea Pigs needed for Teaching Audition) - 5:00-7:15pm

April 10th - Drum Major/Captain Only Round #2 Auditions (Live Interviews/Playing Auditions) - 5:00-7:15pm

Summer 2026 Dates:

July 20th-22nd - Mandatory Summer Leadership Camp (@ Clint Small MS this year) - 8:00am-4:30pm

Mandatory Full Summer Band Dates - July 23rd-24th, 27th-31st, August 3rd-7th, 10th-14th, and the 17th. - 7:00am-4:30pm
