Color Guard
Color Guard is one of the most important visual components of a marching band. The class meets year-round and students can earn PE credit for participation in the course. It’s a unique sport that involves the use of basic techniques in equipment and various dance forms to make choreography, performed in harmony with the musical component from the winds and percussion. This is why Color Guard is commonly referred to as “The Sport of the Arts”.
Winter Guard
After marching season, the guard begins work on the competitive Winter Guard season which goes between January and April. After a brief training period following outdoor marching season, the show is produced and edited gradually throughout the winter into early spring. The competitions take place in various high school gyms on select weekends. The Color Guard typically rehearses their Winter Program indoors during their class period, as well as an occasional practice after school each week in the spring semester.
